Listening to a presentation about preterm babies at home after the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, these questions kept coming up: Why, how often and for how long to fortify human breast milk?We're glad to report that Dr. Marianne Anderson will be addressing this topic of fortification of breast milk at our November 2nd conference. Our current conference will address some of these concerns. We'll have a day to delve into and discuss four topics more in-depth. As an IBCLC, you can enrich breastfeeding support for the families that you meet, whether in private practice, a clinic setting or during their hospital stay.There are four topics in "It's Complicated" theme. They are:• Building Your Tool Kit to Support Survivors of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. This is presented by Rachel Blumberg, IBCLC who has been presenting this work to improve the care providers can give.• What's New In Lactation Research includes novel treatments for jaundice including massage and probiotics. She will also describe new research about torticollis and mammary dysbiosis. Do you know what a Bilicam is? A Biliscan or a Biliruler? Marsha Walker, RN, IBCLC will explain.• Supporting LGBQ/T families: Moving from Tolerance to Cultural Humility. This presentation by Rachel Hess, MS has been very well received by doulas, educators and more. We're pleased she can present at our conference.• Formula Fortification of Breastmilk: How and Why? Marianne Anderson, MD had presented (with Judy Fayre, RN, IBCLC) at an earlier conference about a human milk bank at their hospital. She has a lot of insight into the use of human milk and fortifiers and what vulnerable babies need.This conference is easily accessible by T: take the Orange Line right to Tufts Medical Center then walk across the street to the hospital entrance at 800 Washington St. There is also parking in a garage right nearby. The conference starts at 8 a.m and wraps up at 4 pm.You can get coffee the minute you walk in the building or you can enjoy the coffee and snacks we will provide downstairs in the Wolff Auditorium. Lunch will be provided as part of your conference fee. We've applied for CERPs and expect we'll have those to provide as well.Bring your own thermos or mug and use less plastic.
